Business After 5 with The City Mission

This month’s Business After 5 is hosted with the Whanganui City Mission — an organisation that plays a unique role in our community.

Working at the frontline, the City Mission is more than a service provider. It is a distribution hub, a place of connection, and an advocate for dignity — supporting people through some of the most challenging circumstances.

That work is under increasing pressure. Rising food insecurity, cost of living pressures, limited employment opportunities, and growing social challenges are all being felt locally. At the same time, more responsibility is shifting to organisations like the City Mission to respond.

Alongside this, the Mission is leading a significant fundraising effort — “Unlocking Home & Hope for City Mission.”
This campaign is focused on securing a permanent home in the heart of the city through the purchase of its central building.

Owning the site would reduce up to $70,000 each year in rent and related costs — funding that could instead go directly into food, essential items, and practical support for Whanganui families.

This evening is an opportunity to step inside that work.
