Started in the United Kingdom in 2013 and established in Whanganui in 2022, A Stab in the Dark Murder Mysteries grew from a passion for creating unique, interactive theatre experiences that bring people together — from families and friends to workplace teams. Each storyline is written in-house and brought to life by hand-picked local actors, giving guests the chance to enjoy light-hearted entertainment alongside good food and conversation. Alongside private events, the team delivers corporate team building experiences ranging from fully staged evening murder mysteries to daytime games and puzzle-based activities tailored to your group. The mission is simple: to create memorable, engaging experiences that feel different, immersive, and genuinely fun.

From small groups of friends and family through to events of up to 60 guests, our murder mystery experiences are fully interactive. Guests question the suspects and the Inspector, follow the clues and evidence, and watch the story unfold around them as the mystery deepens. With more than 30 plots to choose from, our most popular themes are set in the 1920s, where many guests enjoy dressing in costume to add to the atmosphere. For private bookings, we work alongside you to select a theme that suits your group and offer flexibility around timing and event format. Our team building experiences combine drama with problem-solving, using murder mystery puzzles and interactive activities designed to encourage collaboration, communication, and a shared sense of fun.
